Exciting Sailing Plans for 2025: From the Clyde to Lofoten and Beyond!
As I write this, the countdown is on—just 35 days to go! In just five weeks, we’ll set sail, leaving the familiar waters of the Clyde behind and heading towards the breathtaking landscapes of Norway’s Lofoten Islands. Here’s a glimpse of what lies ahead...
Setting Sail: Departing the Clyde
On April 20th, we’ll bid farewell to James Watt Dock Marina, setting off from one of Scotland’s most cherished sailing spots. The Clyde holds a wealth of memories, but this year, we’re venturing further than ever. After years of planning and preparation, the excitement is building — we can’t wait to raise our sails and embark on this long-anticipated adventure.
A Scenic Journey North
As we make our way up the west coast of Scotland, we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming friends from Wormit Boat Club to assist with the locks of the Crinan Canal. From there, we’ll sail to Loch Spelve on Mull, where we’ll reconnect with old friends from the Royal Highland Yacht Club. If the weather is as kind as last year, we hope to join the club’s planned mini-cruise, easing into the rhythm of life at sea while recovering from the inevitable pre-departure chaos.
By the end of May, we aim to reach Shetland. These northern isles hold special memories for both of us, having worked there in the past and enjoyed a memorable holiday together in 2019. Lerwick will be our final stop before taking the leap across the North Sea to Norway.
Exploring Norway and the Lofoten Islands
Once we reach Norway, we’ll begin a leisurely cruise north, following its spectacular coastline. With towering fjords, majestic mountains, and picturesque villages, the journey itself promises to be unforgettable.
But the real highlight of our summer? The Lofoten Islands.
Renowned for their breathtaking scenery, Lofoten offers a perfect blend of dramatic peaks, charming fishing villages, and endless opportunities for adventure. We plan to fully immerse ourselves—sailing, walking, kayaking, and soaking up the unique culture of these remote islands.
Southbound: A Winter in Warmer Climes
As summer fades, we’ll begin our southward journey, taking our time to explore along the way. Our current plan is to overwinter in Galicia, northern Spain, but with such a long way to go from the Arctic Circle, we’ll see where the winds and weather take us!
One thing is certain—an incredible adventure awaits. We can’t wait to share our experiences with you along the way!
